LANJARÓN
Surrounded by
a beautiful landscape this town has
many spas and health resorts, which
were used by well known celebrities
as Lorca or Manuel de Falla.
Its old mosque was used as a basement to build the church, which was set on
fire by the moorish and restored again in the XVII century.
We recommend you to walk along Hondillo quarter, the oldest one, full of small
squares and, in the night, enjoy the Muslim castle views.
ÓRGIVA Located
in a beautiful valley near by Guadalfeo
river, the capital of La Alpujarra
is also the commercial centre of
this area. Its streets are mixed
of tourists, inhabitants and hippies.
The Expectación church and the Condes de Sástago Palace are some
of the most important monuments of Orgiva.
Out of Orgiva you may find their Arab castle rests in Barranco de los Castillejos.
PAMPANEIRA This
town is located at the middle of
the ravine of Poqueria. It is one
of the best examples of architecture
from Las Alpujarras.
Its church began to be buit in Gothic times and was finished in Baroc times.
Its keeps some altarpieces and its Mudejar ceiling.
Walking around the streets you will enjoy the murmur of the Chumpaneira fountain
and the artesanal shops colours in constrast with its white walls.
CAPILEIRA When
you get this town, at the foothill
of Cerro del Diablo, don't forget
to go to its Barrio Bajo (Low Quarter),
which is built on th edge of the
cliff.
If you want to enjoy a gorgeous views, you should go to El Perchel view point.
TREVÉLEZ The
highest town of Spain from the sea
level (1.476 meters high). It was
built in 3 different quarters and
it deserves you walk along its typhical
streets full of light and stop in
a bar to enjoy a tapa of its famous
serrano ham.
BUBIÓN It
is also on the ravine of Poqueria
and it deserves a relaxing walk around.
Whenever you walk along its streets
you'll find balconies full of flowers,
small squares and a XVI century church
is the lowest side.
POLOPOS This
little town is located near by mountain
pass of Haza del Lino in the Sierra
de la Contraviesa.
It is a perfect place to take your rest for a while and walk around away from
the touristic places.
YEGEN from
Válor and after crossing a
chestnut trees landscape you will
get this little town, located 1.000
meters high from the sea level and
enjoying gorgeous views.
If you are a freak of literature you should know this town was used by Gerald
Brenan as refuge to write his book "Al sur de Granada" and few friends
of him came to visit him as Virginia Woolf herself.
