In
the heart of the beautiful meadows
of the great Extremadura, the old
Franciscan monastery rises up.
Its name was given by the French “Nôtre
Dâme de Roc –Amadeur” -the
stone lover-. The monastery was
built in 1512 and belonged to the
Franciscan monks. San Pedro de
Alcántara was one of the
past residents.
Nowadays, Rocamador has been described
as another world and, in truth; this
is more than simply a hotel. It seems
to be a place where history, nature,
gastronomy and culture all blend
into one marvellous location. A group
of Spain's show business celebrities
made a joint investment in the late
90's which is today the famous Rocamador.
The site they picked and the building,
both combined are unique.
The new building mingled with the
remains of the old monastery and
the huge rocks found in the terrain.
This monastery is located in an idyllic
place, a natural terrace between
the mountain range of Monsalud and
the meadow, showing a landscape of
oaks of unique beauty. The process
of restoration of the building has
transformed the old dependencies
into twenty three comfortable double
rooms (three suites) using the pre-existing
structures. Thus, one can stay in
what was formerly, the kitchen, praying
room, the library or any of the different
cells of the monks who lived here.
Each bedroom or suite of Rocamador
is different and all are absolutely
enchanting. They categorized the
bedrooms by price, according to the
location as they say, being the lesser
expensive, the ones in the annex
building called the Herradura (horse
shoe). Every bedroom is like a suite
or junior suite. The bathrooms by
the way are part of their main attractions,
especially because of the 10” diameter
shower heads. Also worth mentioning
is the luxurious restaurant housed
in the old chapel and rated by Michelin
as one star
